Terroir
Terroir is the term for what characterizes a particular agricultural area. It’s about the soil quality, the sun conditions, the temperature and the water – all are conditions that can affect the natural tastes.

The most important thing about a terrain is how it meets the wind, the precipitation and the sun. On the farm we have warm slopes, a balanced water saturation and long sunny days.
Sylling in Norway is sheltered and has long sunny days. The fields where we grow salads and vegetables are the end moraine in Lierdalen and are located on a ridge. We especially enjoy the morning sun. It provides good growth conditions.
The land around Hørte Gård (Hørte Farm) is clayey. This makes it easier to store the nutrients and moisture, but must also be processed well and regularly to ensure healthy growth. We use a green cover with grass, herbs and plants throughout the winter. It binds the soil, preserves the humus and organisms and helps to create unique growing conditions.
Our soils get as clean water as you drink from the tap when you live in Bærum or Asker (Near by municipalitys). We get the water from Tyrifjorden, one of the deepest and cleanest lakes in Norway.
Healthy organic farming is not possible without a focus on good plant health. The way there is through developing the living soil they grow in, not depleting it. It has the organisms needed for good, organic growth.
